MY £1 MILLION FEELS CLOSER
Updated: Aug 1, 2020

Here's a question:
Who was the last person to plop into your life and make you think, "There's something about this person. I can't quite put my finger on it. Maybe it's their drive. Maybe it's their personality. Maybe it's the fact they're not a prick. I dunno, but I'm convinced they're gonna do well!"
In 2017, after photographing singer/songwriter/producer Lauren Deakin Davies, such was my conviction, that I wagered £1 million on her future:
Now, I'm lucky, 'cause I've never photographed someone who I didn't enjoy hanging-out with. Back when I actively photographed UK artists, there was something about each one I liked. Lauren had many great qualities. The one I most remember, though, was how we parted company and I immediately thought, "Christ, when I was her age, I absolutely was not that switched-on. In fact, I'm not sure I'm that switched-on now!"
Brutal realisation, but a valid one.
Three years have passed since our shoot, begging the question: what's my point?
I don't really have one. I simply wish to express my delight, pride and mild smugness - because yesterday, Lauren announced her first film credit. Yup, girl has co-written the title track for new movie, How To Build a Girl
Coincidentally, said song was produced by Kaity Rae - another talent who hired me to photograph her just a few months before Lauren.
Congratulations both - I'm proud of you.
So, Lauren & Kaity's delicious achievement aside, what can we learn from this? Clearly, the biggest lesson here is: don't ever waste time tweeting pointless bets, 'cause when your instincts proves accurate, Twitter pays you fuck-all. Scum.
